How Marriage Counseling in Kailua-Kona Works
No two relationships are the same, and that’s why I take a personalized approach to marriage counseling. Here’s how our work together will look:
Initial Sessions: We start with a few sessions to get to know you and your relationship better. We’ll discuss where you are now, where you’ve been, and where you want to go. This helps me understand the unique challenges you’re facing, your history, your strengths and the deeper emotional dynamics at play.
Identifying Challenges: We’ll work together to uncover the root causes of your struggles. Whether it’s communication issues, past emotional wounds, or patterns that are no longer serving you, we’ll dive deep to understand what’s holding you back.
Immediate Support: While I don’t rely on structured homework or behavioral checklists, I do focus on providing immediate support and experiential change. You’ll gain insight into your emotions, communication patterns, and relationships, while learning new ways to support each other and move forward. You’ll get to practice these new skills in session together and take what you learn to use outside sessions too.
Process-Oriented Therapy: Rather than focusing only on achieving a particular outcome, my approach is all about understanding and deepening your connection. We will explore your relationship from a psychodynamic and attachment-based perspective, so you can see how past experiences shape your current relationship dynamics. I believe the process is where true transformation happens, and sets the stage for lasting change.
Progress and Adjustment: As we work together, I’ll check in with you periodically to ensure that the process continues to feel right for you. Your goals are prioritized along with ongoing growth and connection. Therapy is flexible, attuned and tailored to meet your needs.
